The unmistakable beat of Washington, D.C.’s go-go music made its way to Frederick, when the Chuck Brown Go-Go Band took the stage at Rockwell Brewery. The performance brought the energy and rhythm of D.C.’s signature musical genre to Rockwell’s Riverside taproom, where a crowd gathered for an evening filled with dancing, powerful horn lines and the infectious grooves that have made go-go a regional staple. The show marked the band’s first appearance at Rockwell Brewery and gave Frederick audiences yet another opportunity to experience the sound and spirit of one of the area’s most influential musical traditions.
The Chuck Brown Go-Go Band continues the musical legacy of the late Chuck Brown, widely recognized as the “Godfather of Go-Go,” whose blend of funk, soul and jazz helped define the genre. Led by his son Wiley Brown and daughter KK, the band has carried that legacy forward for more than a decade, keeping the music’s signature call-and-response, extended jams and nonstop rhythm alive for new generations. For one night, Rockwell became a little piece of D.C., connecting Frederick audiences with the history, culture and energy of go-go.
