The Frederick Fair Fight

Kiki Wilson - September 4, 2020

Two African-American young men were asking for a dollar to purchase more fair tickets and ride more rides. Upon approaching John Weed and asking him for $1, Weed became aggressive, called the young men racial slurs, and spit on the young men. Weed and the young men proceeded to step out of line. The video showed Weed and one of the African-American young men encircled by onlookers recording, preparing to engage in a physical altercation. The young man struck and spit on Weed, and Weed fell to the ground. Upon being transported for medical attention, Weed succumbed to his injuries.

Representation Matters.

Kiki Wilson - July 30, 2020

Under-representation misses the full spectrum of perspective and experience. It only tells one part of the story while the other pieces go undiscovered. Inclusion may have been discussed in years prior, but it was only until recently that the Frederick County government took action to diversify its workforce, evident by the newly formed Diversity Committee in 2018 tasked with working on a DNI, Diversity and Inclusion Plan.
