Seed to Roots 2026 delivered an unforgettable evening of art, culture, and courageous storytelling in Frederick, filling the historic theater with energy, pride, and purpose.
What began as a youth arts initiative has grown into a movement that continues to center Black arts, elevate young creatives, and connect Frederick’s emerging talent to broader stages, including transformative experiences like past trips to Broadway.

This year’s showcase featured brave student performances, thoughtful visual art, an honest and engaging panel discussion, and a finale that lifted the entire room. Each moment reflected months of preparation and mentorship, culminating in a program that affirmed what Seed to Roots has always stood for: young voices matter.
Founder and organizer Desiree Tucker described the evening as “powerful,” praising the students’ courage, creativity, and commitment. Families, coaches, and volunteers were also recognized for their unwavering support behind the scenes.
The night carried special significance as Michael O’Connor issued an official proclamation declaring February 16, 2026, as Seed to Roots Day in the City of Frederick. Joined by Tammy O’Connor, the mayor’s presence displayed the city’s investment in its young people. County Executive Jessica Fitzwater also attended with her family, continuing her visible support of youth-centered arts programming across the county. The program opened with prayer from City Councilman and Rev. Dr. Derek Shackelford. Lauren Tisdale, who stepped into the role of emcee, led the evening with confidence and grace, guiding the audience through a program that balanced celebration with purpose.
Community investment played a vital role in bringing the event to life. Support from Frederick County Government, Frederick Shopping Center, Alpha Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Swirls of Frederick, and Ausherman Family Foundation ensured that the program remained accessible and impactful.
Rooted in art, culture, and history, Seed to Roots continues to create space for Frederick’s youth to explore identity, sharpen their talents, and see themselves reflected in excellence. And on February 16, 2026, that investment was officially recognized and deeply felt.
