Last Wednesday, Frederick’s youth embarked on an unforgettable journey to New York City, thanks to funding from the City of Frederick and the Mayor’s Office. The adventure wears attended by over 75 students, all eager to explore the Big Apple.
During the last Seed to Roots event, the Mayor and the Ausherman Foundation surprised participants with an announcement of a significant grant award for a sponsored trip to Broadway. This announcement underscored the community’s commitment to supporting its young people and the arts.

The day began with the group’s arrival in bustling Times Square, where the kids took a moment to snap photos on the iconic Red Stairs. The excitement continued as they made their way to a special performance of “The Wiz” on Broadway. After the show, the youth had the thrilling opportunity to meet and take pictures with the Broadway actors, creating lasting memories.
Following the performance, the group gathered at Hard Rock Cafe, where the legendary Lady Irene Gandy hosted a talkback session. The youth enjoyed light snacks and engaged in insightful discussions about the arts. Mr. Diallo and his fellow tour guides then led a walking tour of key New York City landmarks including Rockefeller Center, Bryant Park, the New York Public Library, and Grand Central Terminal.
Dinner at Tony’s di Napoli offered a family kitchen setting for the group to reflect on their experiences. Loud Organizers Desiree Tucker, Kia Tisdale, and Tarolyn Mckinney expertly coordinated the day’s events, ensuring a smooth and enriching experience for all involved.
The return trip to Frederick was abuzz with conversations about the day’s adventures and the promising impact of the newly awarded grant. This NYC trip provided a fantastic cultural experience while allowing Frederick youth to celebrate the arts and develop their collective aspirations for the future.
