For 90 years, John R. Webb VFW Post 3285 has served as a gathering place for veterans. With Capital Crave attached to its wing and beautiful view of a golf course over its balcony, the VFW on the Golden Mile was a popular local staple among all Frederick residents. Now, with a new facility under construction next door, the post is preparing for the future. The 6,000-square-foot first floor will feature a dedicated Service Office for VA claims, two large meeting rooms, a dining area, and space for a future kitchen. A 3,000-square-foot basement will eventually house the West Park Veterans Service Center.

“This is the first VFW post built from the ground up in over 20 years nationwide,” said Post Commander Danny Rodriguez. “It will serve all veterans in Frederick and surrounding counties, offering camaraderie, support, and the only VFW-accredited service officer outside Baltimore’s federal building.”
The $3.2 million project is funded through a $1 million HUD grant secured by former Congressman David Trone, a $500,000 state grant from Maryland Delegates Ken Kerr, Karen Simpson, and Kris Fair, plus $1 million from the post’s own resources. Woodsboro Bank is providing additional financing.
Planning began in July 2021, and completion is expected by September 2025. The post, currently staffed by five employees and 16 officers, anticipates expanding its team to support the new facility. Contour Construction LLC is leading construction, with design by Zavos Architecture+Design, LLC. Check out progress videos here.
