Danielle was loved by many and silently fell victim to the roller coaster of mental illness: depression and bipolar disorder. Described as a ‘nice and sweet spirited inside and out,’ Danielle represents many of us who suffer in silence. All of us have endured pain. Some wear it our sleeves, others suppress it in the heart. Some of us have even looked suicide in the eye. It’s a hollow view, but can seem freeing. And freedom is tempting. It is the topic that creeps in the crevices of conversation, never getting the light it needs, especially for black women.
After all, aren’t we supposed to be superheroes? Strong and impenetrable?
And Darselle, is giving her sister’s story the attention it deserves.
Let’s all remember those who we’ve lost to mental illness and support the fight to end suicide! – Darselle
She was her only sibling. On Saturday, October 14th, 2017 at Baker Park, in remembrance of Danielle’s life, Darselle and her loved ones will be joining the Out of Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk as #TeamDanielle.
To walk with Team Danielle or to donate, visit the Out of Darkness team page. In loving memory of our sister, Danielle Parker.
