On March 6, 2025, the Frederick Speaker Series hosted civil rights icon Ruby Bridges at the Weinberg Center for the Arts. At six years old, Bridges became the first Black student to integrate an all-white elementary school in Louisiana, a standout moment in American history. While Frederick celebrated Ruby, the Weinberg also honored Patricia Hill Gaither, Joy Hall Onley, and Alphonso Lee—the pioneering students who bravely integrated Frederick High School in 1958.

During her visit to Frederick, Bridges shared her experiences and insights, inspiring the audience with her lifelong commitment to activism and education. The event also featured a Meet & Greet session, with proceeds benefiting children’s programming at Frederick County Public Libraries.
