The Morgan State University Choir brought the house down with a special concert at Hood College’s Coffman Chapel. Presented by the African American Resources Cultural and Heritage Society (AARCH), the performance featured the renowned choir under the direction of Dr. Eric Conway. The ensemble, which includes the more than 120-member University Choir and the approximately 40-member Morgan Singers, is known for a repertoire spanning classical, gospel and contemporary music, with a particular emphasis on preserving the heritage of the spiritual.
The concert also served as a fundraiser supporting AARCH’s work to preserve and celebrate African American history and culture in Frederick County, including the organization’s forthcoming African American Heritage Center. AARCH describes the Heritage Center as a space for exhibits, educational programs, cultural events and community gatherings, with its grand opening planned for October 17. The Morgan State University Choir concert was one of several events leading up to that milestone, bringing together music, history and community in support of AARCH’s mission.
