The City of Frederick is hosting Frida, a Frida Kahlo–inspired exhibition created in collaboration with Centro Hispano de Frederick and featuring portraits made by seniors in the Años Dorados (Golden Years) program. The show — which includes roughly 30 Frida-inspired portraits and related works — is on display at City Hall (101 N. Court St.) and runs through October 6, 2025; the City invited the public to a reception for the featured seniors and Centro Hispano staff in early September. The installation frames cultural heritage and personal storytelling by placing community members’ interpretations of Frida Kahlo’s iconography in the city’s governing halls.
The exhibition is part of the City’s fall cultural programming and has been promoted on the City of Frederick’s news channels and social media, highlighting partnerships between municipal arts programming and local community organizations. Organizers emphasized accessibility — City Hall’s hours and public reception information were posted so residents could easily view the work — and described the show as both a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and a way to elevate local artists and elders.
