The Frederick Police Department (FPD) in partnership with City Hall brought the community together for a vibrant celebration at Hill Street Skate Park on Route 40, combining National Night Out with the Community Arts Celebration. This annual event, held on the first Tuesday of August, aims to strengthen the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing a splash of art and culture to the local community.
National Night Out, an initiative that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie, turned into a colorful festival as it intertwined with the Community Arts Celebration this year. Attendees enjoyed an evening filled with activities ranging from moon bouncing to interactive art projects, showcasing local artists and performers. The event also included DJ Shawntay, raffles and free grilled hot dogs and burgers, courtesy of the Golden Mile Alliance, creating a festive atmosphere for families and community members of all ages.
The collaboration between FPD and City Hall exemplifies a shared commitment to fostering a safe, vibrant, and cohesive community. This year’s event not only provided an opportunity for residents to get to know their local officers in a friendly, informal setting but also highlighted the cultural richness of Frederick through various artistic expressions.
As the sun set over Hill Street Skate Park, families left with a greater sense of connection to their community and local law enforcement, along with a renewed appreciation for the arts within Frederick. The successful combination of safety and culture at this year’s National Night Out and Community Arts Celebration sets a hopeful precedent for future community engagement events.
