We have all heard the phrase. “give honor where honor is due.” However, when it comes to Chuck Foreman, a born and raised Fredericktonian turned Minnesota Vikings NFL player, Foreman spent decades building his football career while astonishing both his coaches and former teammates, as a running back for the Minnesota Vikings. In spite of all his achievements, there is still one achievement Foreman wants to fulfill; to be added to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The Life of a Legend: Forman’s Younger Years
Walter Eugene Foreman (later known as Chuck Foreman) was born on October 26 1950 in Frederick Maryland. He attended Frederick High School. While he was there, he dominated and excelled in basketball, football, and track and field. During Foreman’s high school career, he caught four touchdown passes against Bel-Air High School in one single game. This led to great success. While Foreman received more scholarships for basketball teams, he ended up accepting a football scholarship from the University of Miami in 1970. Now in his later years, Foreman, age 73 has lived a long life, and he is no longer the young man he once was. It has been over 40 years since Foreman retired, and even though he has had many accomplishments in life, he feels that he has been overlooked due to not being added to the Football Hall of Fame. Now, Foreman’s greatest goal is not just desired by him.

There are others standing in his corner. Ten years ago, a digital marketer and Vikings fan named Tom Moore created a data pack and a Youtube video explaining why Foreman is worthy of being in the Hall of Fame. However, the senior committee behind the Pro Football Hall of Fame continue not to acknowledge him, even though he has made guest appearances on podcasts, talk shows, and newscasts. “It just blows me away” Chuck lamented.
The Credentials
Many (including Chuck himself) would believe that the failure of the committee to inaugurate Foreman as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame is not only unfair but a great injustice. Facts and statistics show Foreman’s worthiness for this honor. First, Foreman is known for being one of the greatest running backs in Minnesota Viking’s history. Foreman was drafted by the Vikings in 1973, and during his career, he played seven seasons in Minnesota. Furthermore, Foreman achieved 5,950 yards and 53 touchdowns. In addition, he was honored First-Team All Pro in 1975, and earned Second Team All-Pro honors three times. He also earned Pro Bowl honors five times.
Foreman was the No.12 overall pick by the Vikings in 1973, and was the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year that season. In spite of these accomplishments, the Football Hall of Fame has yet to honor him.
The Description of a Legend
What is a legend?
When Foreman set the stage and played for the Universityof Miami freshman football team in 1970, he was met with some resistance; in particular, the Hurricanes’ Freshman coach, Vestor Newcomb. With his voice dripping with a Southern drawl, Foreman recalls Newcomb saying “Well, you definitely ain’t no defensive tackle.
And you’re not playing tight end. What do you think about playing running back?” At 6 ft 2 inches in height, and weighing 210 pounds,
Foreman was already a force to be reckoned with. However, this began his professional career, and like a David before Goliath, Foreman rose fearlessly to the challenge. For decades, Foreman, like a warrior ready for battle led his team to victory, and has joined a group of 27 Ring of Honor members. Foreman’s hard work, grit, and immense talent has made him a giant of sorts in the NFL world. An all-time giant with or without recognition.
