On January 20, 2025, the Community of Grace Organization (COGO), under the leadership of Director Barbara Pinnock, hosted its second annual “Voices of Recovery” fundraiser at the Delaplaine Arts Center in Frederick, Maryland. The event aimed to support individuals in recovery by raising funds for COGO’s initiatives, which include providing job opportunities, transitional housing, and access to essential resources for families in need.

The fundraiser featured a lineup of inspiring speakers who shared their personal journeys and insights into recovery. The event’s theme, “Voices of Recovery,” suggests a focus on empowering individuals and celebrating their resilience. Special guest speaker Leshia Chandler, Deputy Director of Family Services, highlighted the need to reduce stigma around mothers in recovery, while Kaili Van Waveren of ThorpeWood discussed environmental wellness. The event featured a PhotoVoice exhibit led by Dr. Laura Sherwood, showcasing powerful stories of mothers in recovery, and a silent auction with artwork by young artist De’mi Brown. Attendees experienced a guided sound bath by Barbara Pinnock, an electrifying drum performance by Ayanna Gallant, and moving performances by the Elixir School of Dance and singer Jaleesa “JayBaby” Cowan.
Attendees had the opportunity to engage with the community, enjoy performances, and contribute to a cause dedicated to supporting those affected by substance use disorders. COGO’s holistic approach, led by Barbara Pinnock, emphasizes empowering individuals and bridging the gap between the recovery community and essential resources.
