The Frederick Police Department Chief’s Community Advisory Board (CCAB) is comprised of over 50 Frederick residents, policemen, community and religious leaders who convene quarterly to maintain a continual conversation around law enforcement and city policing. In each session, the group is tasked with discussing policing trends and are given the opportunity to vote on their preferred topic each meeting.
Last week, the CCAB met to launch its “Winter Session: An Evening with FPD’s Special Response Team” for its inaugural meeting. The Special Response Team (SRT) responds to high risk and critical incidents in the City of Frederick. Sgt. Reed Preece and SRT members demonstrated a day’s work and discussed the role of tactical teams in policing, SRT tactics and specialized equipment.
On a cold, dark, night, the CCAB were led by Preece and his team to watch live demonstrations and real-time responses to emergency incidents. Presentations by Captain Kirk Henneberry on Constitutional Police and Lt. John Corbett on Use of Force in Policing were given to participants. The training academy staff facilitated “shoot/don’t shoot” scenarios through a training simulator to expose participants to the split-second decision making often faced by police officers. CCAB Members were encouraged to ask questions and familiarize themselves with tactical equipment and medical supplies. The session concluded with a round-table discussion with the CCAB to address concerns and explore the new programs and initiatives at FPD.
The purpose of the CCAB is to provide law enforcement and the community a chance to build a bridge of education, support, and growth in the City of Frederick to be a better place for all.
From the Frederick Police Department:
The Chief’s Community Advisory Board brings together over 50 members of the Frederick community for quarterly meetings designed to build even better relationships between our police department and those we serve. CCAB members represent our faith, school, business, advocate, and non-profit communities across the City of Frederick. Held on January 9th, the topic for our Winter Session was “An Evening with FPD’s Special Response Team.” CCAB members had an opportunity to interact with officers from our tactical team and gain a better understanding of their tools, training, and methods for safely dealing with high-risk situations. The feedback following this session was overwhelmingly positive and we have been told it will be hard to top this when our Spring session rolls around!
