Stitch Early’s latest release, GET ME THE BETA is an archive of unreleased tracks spanning the last five years.
The intro begins with an array of voices exuding varying tonetic emotions saying, “Get me the beta;” they then are unanimously silenced by a cassette tape being inserted into a player. Named for its raw, unfinished essence, the album captures the spirit of what could’ve been, now made whole. “Beta” refers to the rawness and unedited version of Stitch and his sound. In this project, he plays in pockets of tempo, intonation, cadence, and emotion.
Q: What would you say are the themes of the album?
Stitch: You can honestly look at the album as a day in the life of Stitch Early. From being a black man and dealing with the day to day situations like driving, which to some can be minute, but it’s elevated when driving black. Leading into a brief look into the history of Stitch Early. You learn one of my favorite things to do which is CHILL 🤣. Introspection into what I battle with as a man while also championing some of my triumphs. Tapping into my fun sarcastic side and also keeping the main thing the main thing, which will always be to inspire listeners through my penmanship.
A day in the life is exactly the play by play rhyme scheme Stitch employs on tracks like “Sunny Side Up,” an immersion into everyday life one can relate to. His ability to make everyday moments like a simple afternoon with loved ones sound like spiritual breakthroughs is his superpower. There’s a contagious energy to his delivery that makes the listener feel like they, too, can face the day renewed.
Each track opens a window into different seasons of Stitch’s evolution: from his rap origins to his reflections on family, faith, and relentless pursuit of purpose.
Q: Favorite track on the project?
Stitch: I know it’s mad cliche, but for me it really changes based upon the day. If I had no choice but to pick one… hmmm… I might go with Granted I Knew. I love the quirkiness of the beat. It forced me to find different pockets and rhyme patterns. Even how I start it off, it’s like… where’s he going with this one.
“Granted I Knew” is an immediate classic. The heavy, hard-hitting nostalgic beat that complements the conviction of the content. Stitch tells his journey while believing unwaveringly in his gift, purpose, and the timing of the universe.
Another favorite is “The Functn” that teleports listeners to 2001. Mentions of encapsulated names and pop culture from the era bring a youthful and playful spin to the cultural vernacular — like we remember. It’s a celebration, reviving the spirit of block parties and house kickbacks, where the music was loud, the outfits were questionable, and everyone knew the lyrics. “Life on High,” is an infectious feel-good song, with an airy bounce and layered vocals that radiate something familial. It carries the optimism of a perfect summer day, blending groove-driven instrumentation with lyrics that feel like affirmations set to melody.
Q: If you could describe this project in one word, what would it be?
Stitch: VERSATILITY
Sonically, the album showcases Stitch’s versatility. Longtime listeners will recognize his signature sound: warm, introspective production layered with ‘lyrical-miracle’ bars — but there’s also clear experimentation. From bolder, more animated flows to surprising beat choices, Stitch takes risks that pay off. The result is a sonic range that feels fresh and new, while staying rooted in his authenticity.
The album feels like one has discovered a time capsule, a collection of blueprints, rough drafts, and soul sketches given a renewed breath of life. The rough cut still cuts deep. There’s a certain vulnerability in letting the imperfect versions be seen, and that’s part of what makes the project resonate so deeply. Stitch’s choice to release GET ME THE BETA in its raw form is more than a stylistic decision — it’s a statement. In an era where overproduction can sometimes drown the heart out of music, this project invites the listener into the lab, the living room, the late-night car ride — wherever the spirit moved him to create.
Listen and cop GET ME THE BETA.
