The African American Resources–Cultural and Heritage Society (AARCH) brought music lovers together at the Weinberg Center for the Arts for “Luther Re-Lives: A Night to Remember,” a tribute to legendary R&B vocalist Luther Vandross. Featuring William “Smooth” Wardlaw, a live band and supporting vocalists, the concert celebrated Vandross’s enduring influence on R&B, soul and disco through a live musical experience honoring his signature sound and romantic ballads. The event was presented in partnership with the Weinberg Center for the Arts as part of AARCH’s fundraising efforts.
Proceeds from the concert support AARCH’s mission to preserve, celebrate and share the African American history and cultural heritage of Frederick County. The performance also comes at a significant moment for the organization as it prepares to open the African American Heritage Center at 125 E. All Saints St. The center is intended to serve as a place for historical exhibits, educational programming and community gatherings, helping ensure that the stories and contributions of African Americans in Frederick are preserved and shared with future generations. AARCH’s grand opening is scheduled for October 17, marking a new chapter in the organization’s work to connect the community with its history.
