The City of Frederick celebrated Women’s History Month on March 3, 2026, with a Cultural Connections event at City Hall recognizing the voices, creativity and contributions of women through art, storytelling and performance. The gathering explored the many experiences of womanhood and the ways women shape Frederick’s cultural and civic life. The evening also featured an introductory video created by City Hall employees, adding a personal perspective from the people who serve the community.
The program featured poet Lanai Monroe; Cordelia Gaffar, who led a breathwork and body transformation experience; and District 5 Council Member and professional sculptor Sarah Hempel Irani, who shared her artistic perspective. Attendees also witnessed a live demonstration by ambidextrous artist Jesse Bunk. Together, the performances and presentations offered different expressions of women’s experiences, from spoken word and embodied practice to visual art and public service. The celebration complemented the City’s March exhibition, “Womanhood: Shared Experiences, Many Perspectives,” featuring women artists with ties to Frederick and their interpretations of identity, community and womanhood.
