Frederick County came together June 18–21, 2026, to commemorate Juneteenth with a weekend filled with music, cultural celebrations, community gatherings, and opportunities for reflection. The series of events honored Juneteenth, the federal holiday recognizing the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, while highlighting the history, contributions, and resilience of the Black community.

The weekend began Thursday, June 18, with Alive at Five featuring Ahzay & The Squad from 5–8 p.m. On Friday, June 19, the City of Frederick’s Juneteenth Celebration brought residents together at Mullinix Park from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. for an afternoon of programming, entertainment, and community connection. Later that evening, One City One Sound Juneteenth at Sky Stage, the AARCH Ancestral Light Ceremony at Carroll Creek, and the Juneteenth Poetry/Open Mic Night at El Afrik continued the celebrations through music, storytelling, and reflection.
The celebration continued Saturday, June 20, with the Delta Sigma Theta 5th Annual Community Day Juneteenth Celebration at Staley Park. Community members also gathered for a Juneteenth Party at the Elks and St. Paul AME Church’s Juneteenth cookout in Dickerson, creating spaces for fellowship, food, and celebration.
The weekend concluded Sunday, June 21, with SilverVox’s “Look Up: Faith. Freedom. Impact.” Juneteenth Concert at Hood College’s Coffman Chapel featuring an opera performance by Symone Harcum, Katerina Burton, and Elizabeth G. Hill.
Across Frederick County, the weekend’s events highlighted the many ways the community continues to honor freedom, preserve history, and celebrate Black culture. From performances and ceremonies to cookouts and community gatherings, Juneteenth provided opportunities for connection, remembrance, and joy.
