“This summit was created to meet the needs of girls today — whether that’s self-care, STEM exposure, or simply having real conversations,” President Dr. Kathy Brooks, shared during Saturday’s 6th Annual Empow(HER) Girls Summit hosted by the Frederick County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Held at Frederick Community College, the free, one-day event brought together middle and high school girls for a day focused on confidence-building, education, and future planning.

Participants moved through workshops covering education, STEAM, and mental health. A key highlight was the “sister-to-sister” panel, where attendees sat in small groups with Black women mentors from the community, creating space for honest dialogue and connection. The summit was intentionally designed to not only inform, but to help young girls feel more comfortable stepping into spaces they aspire to be in.

The Empow(HER) Girls Summit remains a signature initiative for the chapter’s youth programming, centered on development and empowerment. The organization will continue its community engagement with its upcoming events, offering another opportunity for meaningful connection, conversation and connection.
