On Saturday evening, the AARCH Society welcomed community members, cultural advocates, and local leaders to a moving candlelight gathering at the newly opened AARCH Museum of African American History & Culture in Frederick. The event, held on the museum grounds, offered a space for reflection, remembrance, and celebration of resilience within the African American community.
Guests were invited to light candles in honor of ancestors, loved ones, and those who have contributed to Frederick’s rich cultural history. The serene atmosphere — enlivened by soft lighting and heartfelt conversations — provided a contemplative setting for attendees to connect with both personal and shared histories.
Featured speakers at the event included community elders and cultural advocates who shared stories of heritage, perseverance, and hope. Their remarks underscored the importance of preserving African American history through institutions like AARCH and encouraged attendees to engage with the museum’s exhibits and future programs.
The candlelight event also marked one of the first major community-focused gatherings hosted at the AARCH Museum since its opening, drawing significant interest and support. In addition to honoring the past, the evening strengthened a sense of unity and reinforced the museum’s mission to serve as a cultural hub for education, dialogue, and community empowerment.
Organizers expressed gratitude to all who attended, noting that the evening’s energy reflected the community’s commitment to honoring history and fostering a more inclusive cultural future.
