The Black Economic Empowerment Summit 2023, held on June 15th at the Kepler Theater on the Hagerstown Community College (HCC) campus, was a resounding success. The event marked the second annual gathering aimed at fostering economic growth and empowerment within the Black community.
One of the summit’s highlights was the live interview with Shomari James, Co-Founder, CEO, and Chairman of Equity Now, Inc., and Malcolm Jackson, the Supplier Diversity Program Manager from The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. Their discussion was described as informational, transformative, and motivational, providing valuable insights into economic empowerment and supplier diversity.
The event featured powerful performances by Stitch Early and the Howard University Community Choir, captivating the audience with their artistry. Jaden Rollins delivered a stirring rendition of the Black National Anthem, setting a tone of pride and resilience. Hagerstown Mayor Tekesha Martinez not only spoke passionately about community empowerment but also recited a heartfelt poem, adding a personal and emotional touch to the proceedings.
In addition to the performances, the summit offered dynamic panel discussions, expert presentations on financial success strategies, and showcased products and services from local businesses, underscoring the importance of economic liberation and freedom within the community.
