Winchester Hall came alive on February 5th as the annual Black History Month celebration took center stage. County Executive Fitzwater, alongside county staff, community nonprofits, and talented performers, joined the public for an unforgettable evening of cultural celebration. Titled “Etched In History: A Celebration of Black Culture,” this event was a vibrant and inspiring showcase of African American heritage.
The event aimed to honor the rich contributions of Black individuals throughout history and highlight the importance of diversity and inclusion in the community. County Executive Fitzwater recognized the significance of Black History Month and was committed to celebrating the achievements, struggles, and resilience of the Black community.
Attendees enjoyed an array of captivating performances, including music, dance, spoken word, and theater. Local artists and community organizations took the stage, showcasing their talent and paying homage to the cultural legacy of African Americans. From soul-stirring melodies to electrifying dance routines, each performance reflected the spirit and essence of Black culture.
Most notably were the African drumming performance by Ayanna Gallant of Aya Cultural Arts Studio, spoken word by Lanai Monroe and Slow Motion, a stepping routine by Linganore Step Team and hip hop performances by Ahzay and Asa Weeks.
“Etched In History: A Celebration of Black Culture” was not only a momentous occasion to appreciate and commemorate Black history, but it also served as a reminder of the ongoing work needed to achieve equality and justice for all. By coming together in unity and celebration, Winchester Hall became a space where the diversity and vibrancy of the Black community were honored and cherished.
The evening was an inspiring and memorable experience that captured the resilience, talent, and cultural significance of the Black community.
